Burlington Ravine

Location: Burlington
Historical Category: Natural History
Video Date: 12/21/20

A large ravine originally ran through the center of the city of Burlington. As the city expanded, this natural barrier presented a challenge. It was alternately used for a railbed and sewer lines, before being filled in (mostly with trash) around the beginning of the 20th century. Unfortunately, the loss of this natural drainage has led to many of the flooding problems the city sees today.
